Gym to crag

If you have been climbing indoors and are looking to transition to outdoor rock climbing, then this is exactly the course for you. The curriculum is appropriate for top rope climbers and for those who are newly lead certified at your local gym or working towards certification. Under your guide/instructors observation, we will help you make the transition to outdoor climbing.

Gym to Crag: Top Rope

This class is great for those who top rope in the gym and want to get outside to climb more on your own. Your guide will review what you already know, fill in any blanks of knowledge and then build upon that with the following skills:

  • Outdoor climbing etiquette/LNT practices

  • How to set up an anchor on bolts and natural features

  • How to access fixed anchors from the top of a cliff

  • How to clean an anchor

  • Rappelling best practices

Gym to Crag: Sport Leading

This option is good for those who are lead certified indoors (or are working towards it) and want to get outside to climb more on your own. Your instructor will review what you already know, fill in any gaps of knowledge and then build upon that with the following skills:

  • Outdoor climbing etiquette/LNT practices

  • Lead belaying and giving a soft catch

  • Clipping and proper rope management during leading

  • How to clean an anchor safely

  • How to manage proper falling
